I Am The Epitome of Strength
by Yolanda M. Johnson
Copyright 2003
Being a black woman means...........

that I am the epitome of strength, the pillar of sophistication and style, I am envied by some, worshipped by others, misused more than anyone.

As a black woman I am the ideology of grace, even in  hard places, I shine through the darkest night, for I will not allow you to see my pain, for I am the woman of the world, God's most gifted creature, next to Jesus Christ, but for my family, I will deal, steal and kill to protect my own, with gladness, boldness and honor.

I am a black woman of eclectic skill, for I can make the meanest cornbread from the dryest corn meal.  I am the only one that can turn a disaster into a delight, raise my children and still make love to my king in the middle of the night.

As a black woman, I am your  mother, your sister, your aunt,  your cousin, your friend, your confidant, your enemy, but by far more as a black woman........

I.....am.... everything....
